	The Ship of Fools exhibition space has been designed as a transit zone, a sorting centre where objects and works meet for a moment in time, that of the exhibition, before being dispersed again. The plastic vocabulary is based on freight. And it also involves unpacking, the inventory of a collection placed in an order according to its narrative potential, as opposed to the norms of classification usually applied to objects.The choice was made not to glorify the objects by transforming their status through museological artifices but instead to allow visitors to freely appreciate them, as they are. In order not to produce more, ready-made devices supplied to or found in the Frac's reserves have been used in the organisation of the space. Ateliers Delacroix's traditional nets are the only elements that have been specially made for the event. Dotted around the exhibition, they are an extension of the marine imagery present in&#38;nbsp;the works, and serve to organise&#38;nbsp;the objects and keep the viewers&#38;nbsp;and their gaze at a distance.

	An exhibition curated by Mathilde Sauzet with designer Julien Carretero

In this fictional tale of a miraculous draught of fishes on the seventh continent, Ship of Fools: Objects as Partners in Transport brings together various odd objects from the Design Museum Gent collection, together with a selection of films and other works by artists. The exhibition focuses on the transport craze – the steadily evolving mobility of objects, materials and people – from the 1950s up to the present day. A contemporary echo of Hieronymus Bosch’s late-medieval Ship of Fools, the Frac Grand Large event depicts the possible end of our opulently materialistic societies. Sacrifice or rescue?

Transport: Loss of meaning and vital quest
Let’s consider an act of madness particular to humans: a yearning for transport. This frenzied desire for exoticism, weekends away, trips, export objects, and the frantic pace of our everyday lives, the sancti-fication of cars, aeroplanes, and rockets.
Originally the notion of “transport” was associated with strong emotion. The amorous transports of medieval literature called on the potent desires of courtly love, the magnetism of the muses and troubadours, the passionate feelings behind heroic sagas. Later, around 1650, “transports of the brain” described the hysteria and delirium caused by fever. Transport incarnates a disrupted state of being, far beyond displacement. Scarcity of fuel, mass migration, epidemics, border closures: what we are actually facing is a displacement crisis. Should our transport needs be called into question? The passengers of the Ship of Fools are eating, playing and singing; a feeling of unease emerges from their trance. Over the centuries, the story of this boat has continued to signal a loss of meaning and new vital quests.

The Middle Ages according to Bosch and Brandt
The painting by Dutchman Hieronymus Bosch and the text by the German humanist and poet Sebas-ian Brandt that this exhibition refers to are both called Ship of Fools. Dating from around 1500, they conjure up a period of transition towards a new society: the passage from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, a period of crisis and of moral, social and aesthetic break-down. In Bosch’s picture the ship stands for a means of escape in the tradition of such parables of the Flood as Noah’s Ark. In a makeshift boat, a handful of alienated men and women set sail in the hope of a miracle or another reality. The story of the Ship of Fools represents both a way out and an imprisonment.In the Middle Ages madness was an admissible subject for painting: Bosch, for example, devoted a number of pictures to human derangement. At a time when religion was losing its hegemony owing, among other things,to scientific advances, pagan and vernacular beliefs were multiplying and giving rise to fantastic imaginings and anguish with regard to the underworld. In Bosch’s landscapes, angels rub shoulders with chimeras, sea monsters and spectres; in the midst of this disorder, humans must find the meaning of their passage on Earth. Now in the Louvre, Bosch’s Ship of Fools has been reproduced on a flag at the Frac Grand Large; the ship’s spirit will float through the exhibition like a ghost.

	The Chunk collection is a play on color and materiality that exploits the plaster brittleness as an ornament instead of a sign of decay. The Chunk vases are casted and painted prior to the breaking of their vertical edges. A ‘finish through breaking’ inspired by American modernist architect Paul Rudolph’s corduroy technique.

	Conceived and produced during the Covid pandemic, the radicality of the ALU Chair comes as a result from the odd period during which it was designed. The deprivation of suppliers as well as the obvious constraints brought by the confinement were turned into an opportunity to work differently than usual by upcycling leftover materials from previous projects the studio had been working on in the past. The straightforwardness of the ALU Chair therefore reflects the context within which it was created.

︎&#38;nbsp;Drag2 color swatch&#38;nbsp;

	Drag2 deals with a production process inspired by the traditional plaster dragging technique in wich the plaster is constrained in shape by a profile while hardening. 
This technique traditionally used to produce ornamental cornices is adapted here to produce various typologies of objects thanks to a system of combinatory molds made after genuinely dragged models. Seven molds that once combined give birth to this collection of 24 pieces that includes vases, pendant lamps, sconces and bowls.
All Drag2 pieces are made in Belgium by Studio Julien Carretero.

	This project was commissioned by the CNAP (French National Center for Arts). It aimed at being the reception furniture for a contemporary art festival that took place in September 2018 in a disused warehouse that will become the new CNAP haedquarters and National Collection storage in 2024 after rehabilitation.

Because of the ephemeral aspect of the event, the decision was taken to work on site with materials already available in the building. Standardized architectural elements (wall dividers, floorings, ceiling canopies and fluorecent tube lightings) from the former offices are therefore escaping from their usual grid to become part of a construction and improvisation game.

	Set design for the presentation event of a collaboration between sportswear brand&#38;nbsp;Adidas and Japanese brand United Arrows &#38;amp; Sons held during the Paris Fashion Week 2018. 
The collection was made in close collaboration with artist Kosuke Kawamura who was invited to make a live art piece as well as to present some of his former works as part of the show.

	The Reine Jane Hotel on the French Riviera that made an appearance in Godard’s movie Pierrot le fou in 1965 has asked 14 designers to re-design its 14 rooms.

Room 2&#38;nbsp; is aiming at celebrating the magnificent view the room offers towards the mediterranean sea and its islands. The orientation of the room is tilted so that both the bed and the shower are oriented towards the view, inviting visitors to fully experience its unique landscape.Refined tailor-made steel furniture as well as specifically designed blue limestone surfaces bring a monacal identity suitable for contemplation. The 260 million years old sea fossils imprisoned in the stone are working as subtle patterns spread through the room in various sizes and shapes, inviting visitors to discover them.

	Stoicheion was commissioned by IN Residence&#38;nbsp; to be part of Talisman, Contemporary Symbolic Objects, an exhibition gathering talismans designed by 46 designers held during the Milan Design Week 2017 at Palazzo Clerici.
Stoicheion is a portable adaptation of the periodic table that arranges chemical elements according to their atomic number, electron configurations and chemical properties.Complex to decode for novices it represents the ultimate agnostic talisman par excellence. Its ‘magic’ stands in its ability to deconstruct and summarize down to 118 elements all things existing — both natural and artificial —, all living beings as well as all phenomenons happening — known and unknown — in the Universe. The extraordinary power of Stoicheion therefore relies on the intriguing alphabet it depicts, which can be considered as the most complete list of ingredients from which all recipes can be achieved.


	In 440 BC Democritus initiated the idea of the atom as an indivisible particle that all matter is made of. Nonetheless the 7th row of the periodic table of elements as we know it, which was initiated by chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869, had remained incomplete until late 2016 when the discovery of the four missing chemical elements as well as their names was officially announced.Stoicheion is therefore the most complete version of the periodic table made to date.

	Dix is an exhibition gathering Jean-Pierre Blanc’s ten favorites silhouettes from the spring-summer 2017 collections released by ten different fashion designers or brands. It took place at the occasion of the Hyères Fashion Festival of the Villa Noailles 2017.The exhibition design of Dix taking place in what used to be Marie-Laure de Noailles’ painting atelier is inspired by both the costume parties organised by Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles as well as by their collection of african masks.Dix luminous set also aims at celebrating the arrival of both the spring-summer collection and season. Dix is a party where five mannequins seem to be dancing on turntables when five others are part of the audience joined by visitors of the exhibition.
